Trustee Expectations:

  • Advocacy for Libraries:  The board serves as the primary defender of libraries, supporting staff, securing essential funding, ensuring equal access to collections and technology, and upholding intellectual freedom. We engage in local advocacy and provide opportunities to support libraries at the state and national levels.

  • Developing Policy: Local and state laws provide the library board with significant decision-making authority. From internet access and patron behavior to programming and collection development, we prioritize the public interest in all policy decisions.

  • Oversight of Funds and Library Director: This city library is funded by tax dollars. The library board serves as responsible stewards of public funds, striving to ensure that the library is recognized as a vital community investment. This oversight also includes the hiring and evaluation of the library director.

  • Plan for the Future:  The library board collaborates with library staff, city officials, and residents to guide the future of library services and programming.

  • Commit to Continuing Education:  Engaging in continuing education is essential for providing the best library services. We are committed to being lifelong learners on this library board.
